Marshmello releases Lil Peep collaboration ‘Spotlight’

Earlier this week, Marshmello hinted at releasing his collaboration with the late Lil Peep. Now, Marshmello has released the collaboration, titled “Spotlight.” It’s the first single since Peep’s passing.

A distorted electric guitar and a deep bass pad takes the reigns on opening “Spotlight.” As the track continues, various trap percussion elements are added, complementing Peep’s vocals and Marshmello’s diverse sound.

The somewhat anonymous DJ made waves in 2017 with massive releases with artists like Selena Gomez. This allowed him to slide over into the popular music culture realm and showcase his pop talents. While he does have a solid electronic sound, Marshmello’s sound rides a fine line with pop music as well.

Marshmello’s an anonymous electronic music producer and DJ. His career gained impressive traction through collaborations with artists like Omar LinX, Ookay, Jauz, and Slushii. His track “Alone” saw the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in January of 2017.

Gustav Elijah Åhr, better known by his stage name Lil Peep, is a late singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Åhr was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Long Island, New York. His moniker Lil Peep was known for playing a revolutionary role in the “post-emo revival style of hip-hop.”
