After a sparing release schedule for the past four years, Knife Party have finally released their highly anticipated Lost Souls EP on Earstorm Records. The EP features four diverse tracks, and Harrison makes an appearance on “Death & Desire.”
Knife Party have had a quiet past few years. They have, however, released a single hear and there, notably a collaboration with Pegboard Nerds on “Harpoon” on Monstercat.
“No Saint” kicks off the EP with Knife Party’s signature pounding electro house sound. It pulses through with little to no effort at all with sharp synths and a pulsing bass. The minimalistic production is simple yet incredibly effective. “Lost Souls” takes a similar approach to production that “Centipede” did. Telling a dark story about lost souls that fearlessly builds into a relentless drumstep drop is another signature Knife Party technique.
Knife Party move into “Death & Desire,” which features Harrison, to smooth things out a bit. The track moves forward with a groovy rhythm with a trance-like energy. Ambient pianos, airy synths, and emotional vocals space this emotional track out flawlessly. “Ghost Train” finishes off the Lost Souls EP perfectly. It’s minimalistic production technique closes out with deep bass and a screaming synth that toots its own horn. Don’t let the minimal style throw you off because this train isn’t stopping for anything.
