Jianis and Simon Andersson‘s first release, “Hero,” is a beautiful culmination of lyrics and production. The track sends a powerful message of love, heroism, and anti-bullying. Jianis and Andersson have partnered with FRIENDS to aide in their anti-bullying campaign. And the songwriting duo is donating 50% of the royalties earned from “Hero” to FRIENDS.
Most people have experienced bullying in some way, shape, or form. Whether they’ve been bullied, been the bully, or have seen the bullying, most have experienced it. It’s not a pretty sight and often takes a toll on one’s mental health.
Bullying of any kind should be reduced to 0%. No one should ever experience such a tragedy. Nobody knows what someone is going through, which is why it’s important to treat everyone with love, respect, and dignity. No one’s story or life is better than someone else’s–all life is valuable.
According to the School Crime Supplement, “Nationwide, about 20% of students from ages 12-18 experienced bullying.” Additionally, the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System states that, “Nationwide, 19% of students in grades 9-12 report being bullied on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey.”
Jianis and Simon Andersson’s electronic/indie pop hybrid “Hero” opens with a beautiful electric guitar with a distant reverb. These guitar strums and melodies are ever-present throughout the track. Piano is then introduced during the pre-chorus to build up the track into the drop. The drop is truly a hero because it pounces in with a slow but powerful four-on-the-floor groove. These contrasting sections truly up the ante and drive home these songwriters’ powerful message. Things get tough and sometimes you just have to be a hero.
We don’t know what someone is going through. Be a hero. Be kind. Spread love, not hate. Reach out your arm and help someone who’s fallen.
