After a 15-year hiatus, dance pop culture icon Crazy Frog has returned with a fun-fueled remake of Run DMC’s “It’s Tricky.”
The song is an infectious high energy dance tune that Crazy Frog is recognized for. The track was paired with a dark music video that was directed by Sigfrid Söderberg and Andreas Wicklund. The video follows Crazy Frog around in a post-apocalyptic world where he steals a rocket, which is a jab at Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and other tech billionaires.
Sony Music is hoping that Crazy Frog’s character and music will be attractive to the younger TikTok audience. The meme worthiness of the strange looking blue frog seems to be something the TikTok generation would latch on to.
“When we started Crazy Frog, there was no TikTok, it didn’t exist,” Wolfgang Boss, Sony Music’s president of A&R told NME. “But right now TikTok is super important. It’s basically the number one platform for people to share new music and funny things connected with music.”
Crazy Frog’s official music video for “Axel F” was released in June 2009 and introduced the world to the animated animal. It has already amassed an astounding 3.1 billion views on YouTube and is the 19th most popular clip in YouTube’s history. The creature rode a wave of success between 2005 to 2009 with singles like “Popcorn,” “Crazy Frog In the House,” and “Cha Cha Slide.”
Crazy Frog’s rendition of “It’s Tricky” drops a few weeks before its first official NFT drop on December 23. The digital collectible will be available on Metabeats and will be the marketplace’s first drop.
