Otherworldly travel through various dimensions is an adventure Body Ocean has down to a science.
The house duo’s newest two-track EP, Dotted Line, was released on Dirtybird Records and siphons a stunning sonic display of chirps, arps, and cut-throat bass. Listeners are greeted with the duo’s impeccable mixdown and production style from the first beat, which is baked with soft and booming percussive elements and a distant ambiance. Paired with a gracious flood of “ear candy” and bright nostalgia, Dotted Line makes for an impressive exploratory two-track EP.
Until the summer of 2022, the duo was separated due to Covid restrictions. Despite the negative energy of the pandemic and lack of studio sessions, Body Ocean remained positive and allowed themselves to freely express who they are.
“In summer 2022, we were reunited after almost three years apart due to Covid,” Body Ocean said in a press release shared with EDM In a Soda. “It was a very exciting time. It had been too long between hangs and studio sessions. The very first two tracks we wrote were ‘Dotted Line’ and ‘Yes Sir.’ We gave ourselves the freedom to just explore and didn’t try and make songs that fit within a preconceived mold or sound. And this is what came out. So we’re thrilled that they’re seeing the light of day, and even more excited that it’s on our bucket list label Dirtybird.”
Body Ocean is an international duo consisting of Nik Roos, formerly of NOISIA, and Jeremy Glenn, who is one-half of The Upbeats. The two producers reign from the Netherlands and New Zealand, respectively. To date, they’ve released music across labels like mau5trap, STMPD RCRDS, Mad Decent Night Bass, and Box of Cats.
