EDM pioneer Avicii found dead at 28.
Tim Bergling, better known as EDM pioneer Avicii, has been found dead in Muscat, Oman. He was only 28-years-old. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” states Diana Baron, Avicii’s publicist. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Earlier this week, Avicii was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for the top dance/electronic album for his EP AVĪCI (01).
Bergling had health complications and surgery.
In 2014, he told Billboard that he had health issues and was taking time off to to recover from his surgery. He had his appendix and gallbladder removed.
“Since my operation, I’d just been going and going,” he said at the time. “I was dropping weight. I needed to take a break.”
Additionally, back in 2016, the two-time Grammy nominated producer and DJ announced that he’s no longer doing live performances. He’s focusing on producing and writing. “I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left of a real person behind the artist.” Unfortunately, it seemed as though the touring took a serious toll on Bergling’s mental and physical health.
“I will, however, never let go of music,” he added. “But I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let’s make them go out with a bang!”
The DJ and producer has been extremely active within the scene recently by recording episodes for his podcast, producing new music, investing in startups, and relaunching Gravity HD, his mobile video game.
Bergling’s string of successes have garnered him two Grammy nominations, two MTV Music Awards, and one Billboard Music Award. His biggest hits were “Levels” and “Hey Brother.”
Rest in peace, Avicii.
