Avicii‘s first posthumous track “SOS” has been released. The track features Aloe Blacc, who sang on the late DJ and producer’s 2013 hit “Wake Me Up.”
“SOS” is paired with a heartwarming fan memories video. After Avicii’s passing, his website was converted into a memorial site where fans could share messages and stories of his legacy he left with so many. The video showcases a number of the messages submitted through the site to show the love we had for him.
The track is flooded with an unexpected amount of nostalgia, heartbreak, and hurt. Blacc opens the track with, “Can you hear me SOS / Help me put my mind to rest.” Avicii’s pulsing and simple pluck pairs with Blacc’s vocals and allows him to take the spotlight and sing about the hurt and pain we all feel at some point in time. The chorus has a very tropical feel to it with a piercing melody. While this has a very happy tone to it, the contrasting vocals make for a beautiful and powerful tug of war between a myriad of emotions.
“SOS” will be on TIM, which is due for a release on June 6. TIM will feature all of Avicii’s unreleased music; music that Geffen Records A&R Neil Jacobson said to be “his best music in years.” The proceeds made from TIM will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, a foundation that moves to provide transparency and help for mental health issues and suicide prevention.
Last year, Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman after an apparent suicide while on vacation. His $25 million fortune went to his parents, per Swedish law.
